Pakistan Passport Information

The Directorate General Immigration and Passports of the Ministry of Interior of the Pakistan Government issues Pakistani passport as an important travel document to its citizens. Pakistan is one of the first few countries where Biometric passports were introduced by NADRA during 2004. So far about 7 million Biometric passports have been issued across the country. Biometric passports are being issued in several passport offices in Pakistan. Currently there are three different types of passports available. The ordinary passport is issued to the Pakistani citizens who wish to travel abroad for study, work, business or vacationing. Official passports are issued to Senators, Ministers, Judges of Supreme and High Court of Pakistan, MNAs and government officials. The diplomatic passports are issued to ambassadors, top officials who embark on a diplomatic mission abroad. Earlier there was a separate passport issued for Hajj pilgrimage called Hajj passport. But it is no longer in use and instead the ordinary passport is issued for the Pakistani nationals who wish to go on Hajj pilgrimage.

When a new passport is applied, the individual should submit a filled in application form along with previous passport, recent passport-size photos and original and photocopy of the computerized national ID card. Biometric passports have been issued since 2006. But the old version is still in use. Whenever the passport goes missing or stolen, a police report which details the circumstances, under which the loss or theft had occurred, a legal residence certificate from the concerned authorities, a photocopy of the lost Pakistani passport and a copy of the visa permit should be submitted additionally to procure a new passport.

Pakistani citizens enjoy the privilege of visiting more than 25 countries across the globe without visa on short term tourist visits. Also around 13 countries allow visa-on-arrival access to the Pakistani nationals.
