Hungary Passport Information

Hungarian government issues passport to its citizen to facilitate their international travel. The authorized body to issue the passport is The Central Data Processing, Registration and Election Office of the Hungarian Ministry of the Interior. Hungary joined the Schengen Agreement in 2007 for land and sea entries and in 2008 for airport entry. There are generally two types of passport issued by Hungarian Government. The personal passport is generally issued to all Hungarian citizens who travel abroad for work, study, business or holidaying. This passport is valid for two, five or ten years. The official passport is issued for diplomatic service, seamen service and Foreign Service to diplomats and high level government officials. 

Hungarian European Union passport came into existence from August 2006 and it is burgundy in color. On the front cover Hungarian Coat of Arms is emblazoned in the middle. Above the coat of Arms, the Hungarian equivalent of the words “European Union” and “Republic of Hungary” is inscribed. Below the coat of arms the Hungarian equivalent to “Passport” is inscribed. The standard Biometric symbol appears at the bottom of the front cover. In addition, the visa pages are filled with the musical notes of the Hungarian National Hymn which is visible under UV light.

The data page of the Hungarian passport includes the essential details such as photo of the passport holder, type of the passport, code, passport number, surname and given names, nationality, date and place of birth, sex, date on which the passport was issued, date of expiry, name of the issuing authority and signature of the passport bearer. The data page ends with the machine readable zone. The data page is printed in three languages namely Hungarian, French and English. Hungarian citizens enjoy the privilege of visa-free access to nearly 120 countries and territories and in order to travel with European Economic area they need to produce only their national ID card.
