Bulgaria Passport Information

Bulgarian Government through the Ministry of Interior Affairs issues Bulgarian passport to its citizen to facilitate their international travel as well as a proof of Bulgarian citizenship. Bulgarians are also the citizens of European Union. Hence when they travel within European Union, Albania, Croatia, Bosnia, Republic of Macedonia and other countries, Bulgarians need not carry their passport with them. They can produce their national ID card as a proof. The Bulgarian passport is valid for 5 years and the possession of Bulgarian passport provides the passport holder enough support and security by Bulgarian embassy and consulate abroad.

There are three types of Bulgarian passports available. The regular passport is issued to all the Bulgarian citizens who wish to travel abroad foe study, work, business or a vacation trip. The service passport is issued to the government staff as requested by the government agency and the third type is the Diplomatic passport which is issued to high level government officials and diplomats who embark on international trips representing the Bulgarian government.

Bulgarian passport passports have either 32 pages or 48 pages. They are drafted on the common EU standard design which is burgundy in color. In the middle of the front cover, the emblem of Bulgarian Coat of Arms is emblazoned. The country’s name is printed both in Bulgarian and English above the coat of arms and below it appears the Bulgarian and English version of the word ‘Passport’. Bulgarian passport boasts of security features such as micro-printing, watermarks, UV visible features, etc. The passport holder’s photograph is printed digitally with a holographic image as well as standard ink. Further Bulgarian passport are machine-readable. Biometric passports will be introduces in Bulgaria from March 2010 onwards. The biometric chip will carry the data of the passport holder and the digital image of the individual.
